Sony Shines at the 2024 Game Awards with Big Wins

The 2024 Game Awards, held on the morning of December 13th (Vietnam time), marked a significant moment for the gaming industry in a year full of blockbuster releases that were warmly received by the gaming community. However, the standout name at this year’s event was none other than Sony Interactive Entertainment, which took home numerous prestigious awards.

The most notable of all was Astro Bot, developed by Team ASOBI and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Astro Bot won the coveted “Game of the Year” award, beating out heavyweight contenders such as Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

In Astro Bot, players take on the role of Astro, a cute yet brave robot on a mission to save their teammates. The game delivers not only humorous moments but also deeply emotional experiences, thanks to its innovative gameplay and full utilization of virtual reality (VR) technology. The game’s varying difficulty modes—ranging from easy to challenging—create a smooth, unique experience that keeps players hooked.

Not only did Astro Bot win “Game of the Year,” but it also took home two other prestigious awards: “Best Game Direction” and “Best Action/Adventure.” These accolades are a testament to Sony’s creative vision and commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for gamers.

In addition to Astro Bot, Sony also earned more notable wins at the 2024 Game Awards. Helldivers 2, a third-person shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony, won the “Best Multiplayer Game of the Year” award.

Over the past five years, Sony has focused its strategy in the gaming industry on strengthening the PlayStation ecosystem with high-quality exclusive titles. The company has continued to invest heavily in its internal studios like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, and Insomniac Games, creating iconic franchises such as The Last of Us, God of War, and Spider-Man.

Moreover, Sony is currently negotiating to finalize the acquisition of Kadokawa—a media empire behind the hit game Elden Ring. If successful, this deal will further solidify Sony’s position in the global gaming industry.

While Black Myth: Wukong only took home the “Best Action Game of the Year” award, many fans were disappointed the game didn’t win the top prize. Nevertheless, it impressed with its flawless blend of action, adventure, and mythology, along with meticulous character and environment design, creating a vibrant and artistically rich game world.
