The classic games Dino Crisis 1 and Dino Crisis 2 are now officially available on the GOG store, bringing exciting improvements such as support for Windows 10/11, upgraded graphics with DirectX, and new features like anti-aliasing, integer scaling, and modern controller support. Both games preserve their survival horror spirit, where players battle dinosaurs in a terrifying setting, promising a thrilling experience for gamers.
CD Projekt’s GOG store is well-known for its efforts in preserving classic games and bringing them to modern computers. Titles like Resident Evil, Alpha Protocol, and Warcraft (before being delisted) have been remastered, and now the company has announced a new game preservation project: Dino Crisis.
Dino Crisis originally launched on the PlayStation in 1999 as a survival horror game directed by Shinji Mikami, known for his work on Resident Evil. The game’s story follows a special forces team sent to a remote island, where a scientist died in an accident during an experiment involving “Third Energy”—a potential clean energy source. However, the team discovers that the island is now overrun by dinosaurs that survived a scientific accident. Combining survival and combat elements, Dino Crisis offers a tense, thrilling experience with puzzle-solving, resource collection, and fierce dinosaur battles. Here’s a summary from the game’s story:
“Three years ago, a scientist died in an accident while conducting an experiment. His research was on ‘Third Energy,’ a completely clean energy source. The accident occurred just as the government cut funding, deeming the project unfeasible. To the public, it was an insignificant piece of news. Until now.”
The sequel, Dino Crisis 2, released in 2000, shifted to a more action-focused gameplay style. Shu Takumi, creator of Ace Attorney, took over the director’s role. The sequel’s story follows a group of characters trying to prevent the unstable and dangerous Third Energy, which poses a deadly threat. The world in Dino Crisis 2 has drastically changed, with characters facing continuous attacks from dinosaurs. Dino Crisis 2 keeps the survival horror elements but introduces faster-paced, action-packed gameplay. Here’s a description of the sequel:
“A year has passed since the mission to rescue Dr. Kirk. Third Energy, both the source of ‘ultimate clean energy’ and a ‘potential ultimate weapon,’ has proven to be dangerously unpredictable. The government, having taken control of the project from Dr. Kirk, continued its development. Then, the ‘accident’ happened again.”
Thanks to GOG’s efforts, both games now feature Windows 10 and 11 support, improved DirectX rendering, new settings like integer scaling and anti-aliasing, enhanced audio, higher rendering resolution, fixes for old save corruption issues, modern controller support, cloud saves, and many other improvements.
Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 are now available on GOG for $9.99 each. The store also offers a Dino Crisis bundle containing both games for $16.99. As expected, all titles are DRM-free.
