The breakout RPG hit Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 by Sandfall Interactive continues to strengthen its position as one of 2025’s standout indie titles with the release of update 1.4.0. This latest patch not only delivers major graphical enhancements for PC users but also introduces highly requested gameplay features to elevate the overall experience.

On the technical front, update 1.4.0 adds support for frame generation and low-latency rendering for Nvidia GPUs via DLSS and Intel cards through XeSS. These upgrades promise smoother visuals and faster responsiveness, particularly during intense combat sequences. AMD users, however, will have to wait a bit longer, as support for FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is still under evaluation. The developers have confirmed that they are actively exploring FSR integration for future updates.

A key highlight of the update is the long-awaited Battle Retry mode. Players can now immediately jump back into combat after a defeat without having to reload or navigate through menus. This small but impactful feature helps maintain emotional momentum and streamlines the gameplay loop.

The update also brings visual refinements across several in-game environments. Subtle graphical tweaks improve texture quality and lighting, enriching the immersive world-building and making the journey even more captivating.

Beyond graphics and combat, several quality-of-life enhancements have been added, including:

  • Lumina cost display in the Pictos menu, allowing for better strategic planning.
  • An auto-play option for dialogues outside of cutscenes, reducing manual input during story exploration.
  • Separate volume sliders for exploration and combat phases, offering more control over the audio experience.

Sandfall Interactive also took this opportunity to express gratitude toward the player community:

“We’re deeply thankful for your support since day one. And of course, this is just the beginning—there’s much more to come.”

Alongside the new features, the 1.4.0 patch also addresses several bugs, including fixes for combat issues and previously broken achievement triggers.

With meaningful updates to both technical performance and player experience, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 proves it’s more than just a fleeting indie success—it’s shaping up to be a must-play RPG for 2025 and beyond. If you haven’t joined the journey yet, now might be the perfect time to step into the vivid, mysterious world of Expedition 33.
